Rí Rá is an of Irish bar of a new breed, meant to evoke the Ireland of James Joyce and the spirit of craic (the Irish word for good times) rather than leprechauns and shamrocks. It starts with the authentic-looking interior, which is, well, authentic, having been salvaged from two bars in Ireland and shipped to the states, then restored. Irish and British beers abound in addition to an extensive list of Irish whiskeys. There's a list of pub-grub appetizers, and if your aim is to drink some beer and eat some nachos, you won't leave unsatisfied. But the best choices are the Anglo-Irish entrées: meat loaf, boxty, fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and Guinness stew. The homemade Irish oatmeal bread is something special, too, and with a salad or bowl of soup, makes a fine, if humble, meal. Or get a classic Irish breakfast at the weekend brunch (12 pm–3 pm Sat, 11:30 am–3 pm Sun) featuring steak and eggs, the Dublin omelet, and Guinness and Bloody Mary drink specials. Both the Bethesda and Arlington locations have live music several evenings a week. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Sat–Sun brunch.
