No white linens top these tables, nor do celebrity caricatures decorate the walls: Ray's the Steaks provides the anti-chain experience in favor of true neighborhood flavor. Loyal patrons will gladly drive from the beef emporium that is D.C. to Arlington, Va., where chef/owner Michael Landrum newly relocated and expanded restaurant offers the same top-drawer cuts of meat for substantially smaller prices. Enjoy gargantuan New York strips, bacon-wrapped filets and rib eyes, served with two heaping cast-iron skillets of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach (at no extra charge). Excellent wine list and house-made pies to boot. Full bar. Serving dinner nightly. No. 31 on The Washingtonian's 100 Very Best Restaurants of 2009 and voted Best Steakhouse and Best Value in the 2009 readers' poll.
