BEST BREWPUB

Capitol City Brewing Company opened in the early 1990s as part of that era’s flurry of brewpub opening related to a change in the liquor laws in D.C. and other states. It was an immediate hit with a public hungry for good, locally brewed beer. Of the several area Cap City brewpubs, the Capitol Hill location is in the beautiful Postal Square building near Union Station, which is easy to find even for the directionally impaired visitor. Beer’s the star, and there’s a lineup of regulars such as Pale Rider Ale, Amber Waves, Prohibition Porter and a German-style kolsch. And of course, Cap City serves “beer cuisine.” Chili, jambalaya, nachos, wings, pulled pork, and crab cake sandwiches are all undeniably good companions for beer. Or move to fork-and-knife fare: chops, steaks or fish. Kids' menu. Full bar. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night daily.
