One of St. Louis' most renowned Italian restaurants, Trattoria Marcella is located just south of the traditional Italian neighborhood known as The Hill. It has undergone renovations multiple times to accommodate the crowds that it attracts with its rustic cuisine. Start with the acclaimed calamari or a plate of wild mushrooms served over polenta fries with caramelized sweet Marsala wine and Gorgonzola cheese sauce. Move on to a pizza or pastas such as farfalle Alessandra – bow-tie pasta tossed with salmon in a lemon cream sauce – and chicken and spinach cannelloni. Stuffed veal scaloppini and lamb loin chops with eggplant risotto round out the entrées. Voted Best Italian Restaurant in 2007 Sauce magazine readers poll. Full bar. Serving dinner Tue–Sat. Closed Sun–Mon.
