A St. Louis icon as legendary as its location on old Route 66, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard has attracted legions of locals and tourists to its walk-up windows since Ted Drewes Sr. opened his first frozen custard stand in 1931. While the custard does indeed stand on its own as a perfectly delectable treat, the signature item is the “concrete:” a thick milkshake concoction with a combination of fruit, candy, nuts and cookies folded in the layers of custard. The All Shook Up Concrete (peanut butter cookie and banana) is a deliciously clever tribute to the King’s favorite snack. Per tradition, come November and December (not exactly ice cream season), Ted Drewes sells freshly cut Christmas trees. Voted Best Ice Cream in 2007 Sauce magazine and Riverfront Times readers polls. No alcohol available. Generally serving during lunch, dinner and late-night daily. Closed mid Dec–mid Feb. Call for hours.
