It's easy to mistake Laclede Avenue in St. Louis' Central West End for a side street in Paris, thanks to Chez Leon's red restaurant front with its tall French doors and patio. The elegant seasonal menu continues the tradition of classical and provincial French cuisine. Items are available à la carte or on a reasonably priced three-course, prix fixe menu. For starters, try smoked salmon with capers and onions or a salad with warm bacon and poached eggs. Entrées can include fare such as steak frites, braised sauerkraut with a smoked pork chop and sausage, and roasted free-range chicken with truffle sauce. Voted Best French Restaurant in 2008 St. Louis magazine critics poll and the 2008 Sauce magazine and Riverfront Times polls. Also voted Best Place to Eat Out Alone in the 2008 Riverfront Times critics' poll. Full bar. Serving dinner Tue–Sun. Closed Mon.
