About 30 minutes from Seattle in the tiny city of Maltby is Maltby Cafe, one of the area's much-lauded breakfast spots as well as a quaint lunch café and diner. Located in the old Maltby School gym building, the friendly and super-clean café features hearty, down-home breakfast fare (served all day Sat–Sun) such as country-style buttermilk pancakes, chicken-fried steak, and eggs Benedict served on thick-sliced honey-baked ham over a buttermilk biscuit and slathered in house-made hollandaise sauce. There's also thick-sliced French toast, Swedish-style pancakes filled with fresh strawberries and cream, and the ultimate cinnamon roll, topped with walnuts. For the more health conscious, there are light breakfast choices such as bran muffins, fresh seasonal fruit, house-made granola, and omelets and scrambles made from egg substitutes. Lunch offerings include 13 different burger options and classic sandwiches such as corned beef and turkey melts as well as veggie sandwiches and salads. Entrées include prime rib and smoked salmon pasta. Reservations not accepted. Beer and wine available. Serving breakfast and lunch daily.
