Greenwood neighborhood regulars keep the behavior level just below rowdy every night of the week at local hangout, 74th Street Ale House. Launched in 1991 and now with two other locations (Hilltop Ale House, The Columbia City Ale House), these pubs are designed to resemble traditional English alehouses with high ceilings, big windows and attractive wood floors. Seventeen beers are featured on tap, including local brews such as Hales Cream and the Lazy Boy Porter, and imports such as Guinness and Alpine Oktoberfest. The menu, which changes weekly, draws meat-eaters and vegetarians alike with its refined pub fare. Starters include roasted garlic and herb bread, oven-roasted curried cashews, baked goat cheese salad, and a rich house gumbo. Vegetarian offerings include a plate of muhammara dip (a Middle Eastern dip made from roasted red peppers, feta cheese, cumin, garlic and walnuts) and the black bean burger, served on warm pita bread with mayo, Jack cheese, lettuce and thinly sliced red onions, topped with a three-pepper salsa. For those craving aquatic delights, there are offerings such as a blackened salmon sandwich or fish tacos with kiwi salsa. Beer and wine available. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily.
