Modern, upscale Straits Restaurant, located in San Jose's hip Santana Row, serves Asian Fusion cuisine with an emphasis on the foods of Singapore. At night, the noise level rises as predominately young diners crowd around sleek counters and tables. Straits even looks like a nightclub at times, with its dim lighting, loud music and a line out the door. Start with
roti prata, a buttery Indian flatbread, perfect for dipping in curry sauce. Origami sea bass, the house specialty, is baked in parchment with ginger, shiitake mushrooms, longan fruits and rice wine. Other dishes include braised lamb shank in white curry with potatoes and onions, or lobster and shrimp pad thai. Entertainment Wed–Sun nights includes live music, DJs and karaoke. Reservations suggested. Voted Best Asian Fusion in 2007
