Taqueria Cancún is considered one of the top burrito restaurants — in a particularly burrito-heavy market — and one of the top late-night dining spots in the Bay Area. Here, consistently overstuffed burritos are grilled with a crispy, flaky tortilla. The veggie burrito is a clear favorite, served with black or pinto beans, salsa, rice, cheese, cilantro, half of an avocado and sour cream. Beyond the more traditional steak, chicken, pork and chorizo mainstays, more exotic fare includes lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef head) and sesos (beef brains). All burritos are served with tortilla chips with two dipping options: the tomato-based salsa used in the burritos, or a creamy avocado-based dip. Carne asada (grilled steak with rice, beans, salsa and tortillas), enchiladas, quesadillas, egg dishes and fish tostadas are also available. Serving lunch, dinner, and late-night daily. Voted Best Taqueria in the 2008 Bay Guardian readers poll.
