With its colorful, busy signage and fresh decorating scheme, Twin Sisters Bakery & Cafe is eye-catching at both its downtown and Alamo Heights locations. Music plays every Monday, Friday and Saturday from 7–9 pm at the Alamo Heights location, and local art is displayed at both stores. The food is as progressive as the staff here: Organic produce and other products are used whenever possible; lunch and dinner specials change daily; and the menu has a lot more to offer vegetarians than just salads. Diners can choose from soups (bean, split pea and gazpacho), sandwiches and healthy Tex-Mex alternatives such as breakfast burritos on whole-wheat tortillas, enchiladas and grilled empanadas. Twin Sisters offers other distinct dishes such as turkey burgers, potato stir-fry and African stews. For dessert, cookies, cakes, muffins and pies — all made with stone ground or unbleached flour — are available. To drink, try the espressos and cappuccinos or the popular iced herbal tea. Beer and wine available at the Alamo Heights location. Downtown location serving breakfast and lunch Mon–Fri. Alamo Heights location serving during breakfast, lunch and dinner hours Mon–Fri, breakfast and lunch hours Sat–Sun.
