A true old-school Texas dining treasure on the site of a former stagecoach stop, The Barn Door Restaurant's 1953 debut earned its distinction as San Antonio's oldest steak house. The Barn Door has its own butcher shop and grills its steaks, chops, chicken and seafood over mesquite in an open kitchen overlooking an expansive dining room. Rough-hewn wood beams and checkered tablecloths add to the down-home feel of the place. Specialties of the house include a variety of traditional steaks as well as not-so-traditional steak dishes such as the chicken-fried rib eye. Pork chops, chicken livers or gizzards, quail, rack of lamb, and a number of seafood dishes are also offered. Full bar. Serving lunch Mon–Fri, dinner nightly.
