At Texas West Bar-B-Que, you’re certainly not in California anymore — or at least, you wouldn’t think so. This recreation of a classic Southern barbecue joint rings rustically true right down to the last plastic chair and serve-yourself soda. Texas West delivers with top-grade pork ribs and shoulder, chicken and beef. Each are hand-rubbed with sauces and spices, then slow-smoked for hours over a custom-built pit to obtain that signature smoky flavor and fall-off-the-bone tenderness. Whether on a sandwich, platter or in a combo basket, barbecue tastes best when doused in the tangy sauce and accompanied by traditional sides such as potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw. Texas West also serves half-dozen varieties of one-third pound charbroiled burgers, including the featured "Pig Out" with juicy pulled pork topping the patty. Other specialties include Po-boys, baby back ribs, sliced beef brisket, and tri-tip platters. Kids' menu. Beer available. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Voted Best Barbecue in the 2009 Sacramento magazine readers' poll.
