Brother and sister team Paul Ringstrom and Conni Levis drew upon their experiences studying abroad in Spain during their college days upon opening Midtown eatery Tapa the World in 1994. Combining Old World charm, Spanish-inspired cuisine and flamenco music, the two struck a hit among hip Sacramento diners who immediately took to the small-plates concept. See and be seen at this trendy tapas joint, known for its capacity crowds, hyped-up atmosphere and late-night hours (until midnight nightly). Locals stop in before an evening on the town or after a show or game to socialize over the likes of meat-filled empanadas, sherry-steamed mussels and spicy sautéed garlic rock shrimp. Those preferring full-sized portions can indulge in any of the house-specialty paella dishes or expertly prepared lamb, venison, seafood, chicken or beef entrées. Time passes particularly quickly on the patio during the warmer months. Tapa the World features a flamenco guitar player nightly and flamenco dancers every fourth Saturday of the month. Voted best appetizers in the 2008 Sacramento Magazine and 2007 Sacramento News & Review readers polls. Wine, beer, sangria and a limited liquor selection available. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night daily.
