The most democratic of all local whole foods providers, the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op (SNFC) began in 1972 as a food-buying club. The operations rapidly evolved into a bulk foods storefront and eventually the cooperative venture that it is today. With an insistent emphasis on locally grown products, co-op members provide a full line of natural, organic and whole foods – including specialty cheese, beer and wine, humanely raised meat, poultry and seafood, and a plethora of natural herbs, vitamins and beauty products. The co-op boasts a daily special buffet, featuring a fresh selection of dishes of a designated ethnic cuisine (Creole, Indian and Brazilian, to name a few). You'll also find an organic espresso, coffee and tea menu, plus a smoothie and juice bar as well as a salad bar to supplement the central build-your-own sandwich deli. If you can't choose your own combo from the array of organic meats, cheeses, veggies and spreads, the vegetable calzones or black bean enchiladas hit the spot every time. Beer and wine available. Serving from 7 am–10 pm daily. Serving breakfast Mon–Fri.
