The Fat's Restaurants group may be known for its unique Asian dining concepts, but Fat City Bar & Café is as much a corn-fed American tradition in Sacramento as turkey on Thanksgiving. Ideal for a light lunch, weekend brunch, or dinner and drinks before a night on the town, this turn-of-the-century-style eatery evokes the Gold Rush era with its historic building in Old Sacramento, supposedly the site of the city's first storefront. Amid stained glass windows and Tiffany lamps, locals and tourists alike enjoy a varied menu of light salads, sandwiches, pastas, chops and ribs, as well as several down-home specialties such as meat loaf, blackened catfish and chicken potpie. Burgers are best here, with four mouth-watering variations (classic, mushroom Swiss, bourbon barbecue and bacon cheddar), while wild mushroom ravioli and fish specialties prove some of the most popular dinner entrées. With such tempting options as crab cakes Benedict and chicken-apple sausage scramble, weekend brunch (10:30 am–3:30 pm) is always well-attended by locals. Reservations suggested. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily.
