For years, Rooney's Restaurant, located in a circa-1890s converted saloon in the tiny neighborhood of Swillburg (formerly known for its prominent pig farms, where "swill" was customarily left out on porches to serve as pig feed –hungry yet?), has been one of Rochester's go-to spots for romantic dining and creative Continental cuisine. High ceilings, a fireplace, exposed brick walls and exceptional service set the scene for a memorable meal. Begin with appetizers from the daily changing menu such as salmon spring rolls or escargot with a blue cheese demi-glaze. For entrées, the array of wood-grilled meats is always top-notch, and you can't go wrong with specialties such as plantain-crusted shrimp or the house-made spinach walnut ravioli. Full bar. Serving dinner nightly.
