Rochester's Rohrbach Brewing Company has evolved since its early 1990s opening from a small brewpub and restaurant to a much larger restaurant as well as brewing operation that helps supply craft beers to a host of bars, restaurants and retail outlets throughout the region. Brews include the flagship Highland amber lager, X-Ale, blueberry ale, Sam patch porter, and seasonal beers such as the holiday favorite Kacey's Kristmas Ale, made with chocolate malt and real cherries. The expansive, outstanding food menu features German favorites as well as American standards such as barbecued ribs, steaks, burgers and salmon. Starters include wings, nachos, German pancakes, an oversized hot pretzel, and a sausage and cheese plate with pretzel bread. Soups and such are lead by white chicken chili, cheddar Highland soup and the aromatic Flour City Seven Lily Soup, a variation of a cheese-topped onion soup but with its kissin' cousins garlic, leek, chives and the like along for the ride. Sandwiches include upstate New York favorite beef on Weck, liverwurst, and pastrami. Rib-sticking entree specialties include a German sampler plate (schnitzel, bratwurst, bauerwurst (a German farmer's sausage), German potato salad and sauerkraut) and beef and porter stew. A beer-battered fish fry is offered on Wednesday and Friday nights. The German beef pot roast classic, sauerbraten, is offered only on Saturday nights. Kids menu. Full bar. Voted Best Local Brewed Beer in 2007 Democrat and Chronicle readers poll. Serving lunch Mon-Sat. Dinner daily, until midnight Fri-Sat. Bar open later.
