Mediterranean diets are among the healthiest in the world, a fact that often surprises Americans whose exposure to Greek cuisine has been limited to gyros. Since its inception in 1979, Rochester's Olive Tree has aimed to dispel this misunderstanding and focus instead on the cuisine's commitment to fresh ingredients and healthy combinations. While the restaurant's website provides an extensive history of Greek cuisine for curious epicureans, it's not necessary knowledge to enjoy the restaurant's light, flavorful offerings. Entrées include marinated leg of lamb, chicken or seafood grilled on skewers, spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese in pastry) and vegetarian moussaka (sort of a Greek lasagna) with eggplant. For dessert, sample baklava, rice pudding or a crème caramel. Reservations suggested. Full bar. Serving lunch Wed–Fri. Dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun and between meals.
