Often touted as one of Raleigh's best-kept secrets, Bella Monica brings the taste of Italy – via New Jersey – to the Triangle. The Monica family has recreated their longstanding Jersey trattoria in Olde Raleigh Village, and entrées are labeled "Favorites From Nana's Kitchen" because they are. Great-Grandma's Neapolitan recipes are kept sacred; San Marzano tomatoes are imported; and the familial atmosphere of the dining room highlights the importance of kinship in Italian culture. Although the pizza (with more than two dozen toppings available, including pineapple, chicken and clam on crispy thin-crust) is a house specialty, Bella Monica also offers an assortment of pastas, antipasti, sandwiches, flatbreads and other classic Italian favorites such as chicken Parmesan, baked ziti and, of course, spaghetti and meatballs. Reservations suggested on weekends. Beer and wine available. Serving lunch and dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
