Anotherthyme continues owner Mary Bacon's tradition of serving up nutritious dishes inspired by Mediterranean, Asian and American Southwestern cuisines. From a quaint building near one of downtown Durham's most energetic retail centers, Bacon's consistent, handcrafted recipes draw local patrons in droves. Her restaurant is a particularly well-known gathering spot for Triangle singles, professionals, and the arts and entertainment crowd. The dining room twinkles with romance from rafter lights and oil lamps, and the mahogany bar and dark wood furnishings add an element of sophistication to the artsy setting. Specials and appetizers rotate every few weeks, and the food is consistently outstanding: Mary spends more than 20 hours perfecting each recipe. Although the emphasis remains on seafood and vegetarian dishes (seared pumpkin seed-crusted yellow fin tuna or Indonesian curried vegetables), classics such as fried chicken (free-range and rolled in almonds, Parmesan, herbs and fresh bread crumbs) are delicious as well. Choose from more than 75 varieties of bottled wines, or try what some locals call the best margaritas and screwdrivers in town. There's a tapas menu at the bar Fri–Sat nights from 10–11:30 pm.
