Owned by the Van family, who came to America as Vietnamese refugees in 1980, Silk was originally opened in 1992 in the Pearl District as Pho Van Bistro. The Vans renamed the restaurant Silk after renovations made it the most upscale of their three traditional pho soup eateries in the area. Lampshades with seashells and textured walls blend with black leather booths and candlelight to create a romantic atmosphere. Start with items from the menu such as grilled salmon salad rolls and caramelized prawns. Entrées include beef skewered with kaffir lime leaves; duck curry; lotus root salad with shallots, cucumbers, mint and shrimp; and tamarind clams. For dessert, try the avocado smoothie. The chic bar features a small plates menu and exotic cocktails. Reservations suggested. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
