A bit of glam in laid-back Portland, Saucebox combines top-quality Pan-Asian cuisine with a bar scene that features a late-night DJ and a slew of signature cocktails. You're greeted by a canopy of bamboo before entering the restaurant, and once you're inside, three-dimensional artwork practically writhes with the music. An extensive Thai- and Korean-influenced menu features local fish, meat and organic produce. Start with organic tofu with soy sauce, ginger, scallions and bonito flakes; shrimp and chicken shu mai with water chestnuts and Szechwan pepper; tapioca dumplings with chicken, peanuts, cilantro and garlic oil; or crispy sweet potato spring rolls. Stop by the raw bar for oysters on the half shell and other delicacies. Main entrées include vegetable red curry, green curry, grilled pork chops, Korean-style baby back ribs and steamed Alaskan halibut. For dessert, try banana turnovers or coconut sorbet. Ages 21 and up after 10 pm when the DJs start. Reservations suggested. Full bar. Serving dinner Tue–Sat. Closed Sun–Mon. Lounge (featuring a café menu) serving late-night.
