Directly across from Heinz Hall, Christos' Mediterranean Grill in downtown's Cultural District is the perfect spot for some pre-theater spanakopita or some lunch-break moussaka and baklava. The dining room is bedecked with family photographs and memorabilia from the storied life of big-hearted and ever-present owner Christos Melacrinos, a Greek immigrant who waited tables for 17 years before buying the restaurant in 1997. A loyal clientele packs this small, no-frills space for appetizers such as hummus, dolmades, Greek salads and warm pita bread. Myriad vegetarian entrées are available in addition to favorites such as lamb kabobs or chicken and rice soup. For dessert, try the Jackie O, a vanilla cake topped with honey syrup, custard and whipped cream – Melacrinos once worked on the former first lady's private yacht. It'll have you declaring "Ich bin ein Athenian." House-distilled wine available. BYOB. Serving lunch and dinner daily, late-night Fri–Sat.
