The Don & Charlie's slogan, "Championship Dining Since 1981," could mean one of several things. For one, this Scottsdale favorite boasts one of the largest collections of baseball memorabilia outside of Cooperstown. Floor-to-ceiling autographed photos, caricatures and jerseys make a busy visual backdrop to the already bustling atmosphere filled with year-round locals and seasonal spring training junkies, particularly Arizona Diamondacks and Chicago Cubs fans. Competition for a table or a seat at the bar can be stiff on the weekends, particularly during Cactus League season each spring when fans and players alike pack 'em in for some of the best ribs in town. Despite the casual atmosphere, food and service follow the standards of upper-crust chophouses in Chicago. Entrées include massive slabs of baby back ribs, steaks and chops. A full slab of ribs weighs in at a pound and a half; double pork chops peak at 20 ounces; and the New York strip is only available in 16- and 20-ounce cuts. Don & Charlie's also offers a selection of nicely prepared chicken, fresh fish and pasta dishes. Desserts include cheesecake and a unique version of crème brûlée. Reservations suggested. Kids' menu. Full bar. Serving lunch Mon–Fri, dinner nightly. Voted Best Ribs in the 2009 New Times critics' poll.
