New Roads, La.-native Kay Romero had enjoyed traditional Cajun cuisine her entire life. But after moving to Phoenix in 1966 with her husband and eight children, hers was the only acceptable Cajun cooking she could find in the area. Her eventual response was to open the first Baby Kay's in Scottsdale in 1989, a tiny restaurant that served the authentic dishes her family loved back in Louisiana. A move to a much more spacious Town and Country Shopping Center location allows for more locals to pack in for the delicious po-boys, gumbos, and red beans and rice. Begin with some fiery chicken wings, a basket of garlic bread or the house specialty, shrimp rémoulade. Particularly outstanding entrées include crawfish étouffée and andouille sausage jambalaya. Crawfish boils are offered on Wednesday nights in season. Cajun-themed cocktails and Louisiana-brewed beers are among the beverages. Voted Best Cajun Restaurant in the 2007 Phoenix New Times critics poll. Reservations suggested for parties of six or more. Live blues on weekends. Full bar. Kids menu. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Closed Sun.
