More than 40 locations strong and growing, Jupiter, Fla.-based Ale House Restaurants didn't need Nation's Restaurant News to designate it a Regional Powerhouse concept for Floridians to recognize its success. Husband-and-wife founders Jack and Claire Miller have built their family-friendly sports bar model with the kind of grass-roots passion for top-notch burgers and other bar staples that naturally wins a loyal following. A tourist's break from the Disney hoopla and a local's refuge from a long day at the office, the many Ale Houses throughout Orlando offer the chain's pub-like atmosphere and drink specials. What you might not expect is the great food. Standard bar fare reaches higher with appetizers such as deep-fried conch fritters, mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms. Fat, juicy burgers include beef and turkey varieties as well as mini-burgers for the kids (and the kid in all of us.) The boneless chicken wings known as "zingers" won national attention when popsters 'N Sync delivered a batch of their favorite snack to Rosie O'Donnell during an interview. Main courses such as baby back ribs, a blackened prime rib sandwich and anything involving seafood deserve particular praise, although everything from pastas to steaks to sandwiches could appear on almost any less-casual restaurant's menu. Daily specials unique to each location prove some of the best and most creative items offered. Voted Best Sports Bar in 2007 Orlando Weekly readers poll. Full bar. Kids menu.
