When coffee's the order of the day, Thornton Park residents and visitors in the know bypass the ubiquitous national chain on Washington Avenue for the charming little historic home housing The Coffee House of Thornton Park. Immediately, the white-fenced front porch and lovely gardens signal that this is a far cry from Corporate America-run coffee. The quaint space includes a collection of cozy nooks, including a couched TV-video game space, two-top window tables and a little library. Celebrity coffees from around the world are this java joint's stars: Italian coffeemaker Lavazza provides the espresso, Jamaica Blue Mountain brand the drip coffee of the day on Wednesdays, and a locally roasted Panamanian blend the house coffee. Every hot cup comes with a decadent Italian biscotto. Don't miss the list of herbal teas and cool drinks, as well, particularly the peach iced tea or the orange cream-flavored Dreamsicle. In addition to the house-baked breakfast pastries, The Coffee House of Thornton Park offers a lunch menu featuring exceptional Cuban sandwiches and Italian focaccias. Beer and wine available.
