Cafe do Brasil has evolved since it opened almost a decade ago, from a muffin shop to a full-fledged café and bar specializing in Brazilian cuisine and drinks. And a November 2005 move to 11th Street doubled its size. A must-try entrée is feijoada, the Brazilian national dish akin to American soul food. The stew includes black beans, pork, onions and garlic and is complemented with sides of rice, collard greens and orange segments. Deep-fried bananas, a common Brazilian side dish, are also well worth ordering. Ditto the country's answer to the margarita, the caipirinha, made with cachaca (the most popular alcoholic liquor in Brazil, made from sugar cane), limes, sugar and ice. Other recommendations include fresh fruit with a passionfruit raspberry sauce, cheese bread and any of the 16 choices of muffins. For dessert, try Brazilian pie. Live jazz on Sat. Full bar. Serving lunch Tues–Fri, dinner Tues–Sat. Sat–Sun brunch 8 am–3 pm. Closed Mon.
