La Mediterranee serves predominantly Middle Eastern and Mediterranean favorites from North Africa, Armenia, Lebanon and Turkey, plus a few dishes from as far west as Greece. It's no wonder Bay Area locals have playfully dubbed the restaurant "La Med." Tasty starters include hummus, bulgur wheat tabouli, baba ganoush and dolmas (a rice mixture wrapped in a grape leaf). Sample them all in a combination, or pair with a cup of cold cucumber and yogurt soup. The Mediterranean meza allows two or more diners to sample 10 different dishes including kabobs, hummus and baba ganoush, tabouli and phyllo items such as cream cheese wraps. A vegetarian meza is also available. Other unique entrées include chicken pomegranate drumsticks; Lebanese kibbeh, which includes ground lamb, cracked wheat and pine nuts; and a quiche of the day. For dessert, datil amandra (a phyllo pillow filled with dates and nuts) is much-recommended. Lunch specials available during the week include classic chicken kabob served over rice pilaf, and a Middle Eastern plate with Grecian spinach and feta. Reservations suggested for large parties. Full bar. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night daily. Voted Best Middle Eastern Restaurant in the 2008 East Bay Express readers poll.
