Dining at either of the two César locations proves a decisively fun experience. Whether packed in Berkeley's brightly colored dining room or enjoying the open-café setup of the Oakland branch, Bay Area residents can't get enough of the spectacular small-plate menu. And how could you, with such a range of creative choices – from marinated olives and Spanish cheeses to clams with house-made sausage and smoked trout salad? The length of the drink list includes wines, beer and cider, plus specialty cocktails and martinis. Fine sherries, rare bourbons and a little black book of drinks also make the bar special. Reservations are only accepted for Shattuck Avenue's communal table, which seats 12–15 guests. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Voted Best Small Plates in the 2008 Oakland magazine readers poll and Best New Restaurant in the magazine's 2007 readers poll.
