BEST BURGERS IN THE WEST VILLAGE/MEATPACKING DISTR
This West Village dive has consistently topped New York City's burger ranks since the '60s. Little appears to have changed in its nearly 50 years. The décor remains dated and a bit dingy, the vibe friendly, and the burgers simple and about as classic as they come: 8-ounce-thick patties topped with American cheese, onions, bacon, lettuce and tomato. In any other town, this type of hole in the wall might be considered a hidden gem, but Corner Bistro has been discovered many times over, as the long lines will attest. It might be wise to come at off-peak hours, or you can strap on your drinking boots and enjoy a draft beer at throwback prices while you wait for your burger. Fries are a worthy accompaniment, as is the chili burger if you're feeling particularly cheeky. Warning: not ideal for vegetarians, carb counters and claustrophobes. Full bar. Cash only. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night daily.
