Open since early 2003, West End's trendy Acorn fast became one of Nashville's favorite restaurants only in part for its outstanding food. Near Vanderbilt University and adjoining Centennial Park, Acorn's architecture exploits its lush, tree-happy surroundings most effectively: The downstairs dining area features dark paint, dramatic artwork and romantic booths. The second level holds a small bar, and upstairs on the third floor, high up in the trees, is one of the city's best decks. The upstairs bar rocks with activity from both drinkers and diners, and often from the adjoining room for private parties. Meanwhile, the food shows verve and imagination. Off the tapas and appetizers menus, sample the Korean barbecue beef wraps. Or try the acorn squash-stuffed ravioli and a stellar Caesar salad. Topping the entrées: fish specials, pork tenderloin, and braised lamb shank. Reservations suggested. Full bar. Serving dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
