The Milwaukee Ale House loves beer. Really loves it. They brew it themselves here, and a lot of work goes into procuring ingredients such as Czech, British and German varieties of hops. The lineup is mostly ale, plus a stout and a "session beer," so-called because it's made on occasion according to the whims of the brewer. These are beers with a real connection to place – the Downtown Lites Honey Ale uses 60 pounds of local honey. If you can't actually make it to Milwaukee Ale House, you can still try the beers. Louie's Demise, named after the unfortunate ending of the owner's great great uncle, can be found at bars and restaurants around town. As for the food menu, you'll find tried-and-true beer buddies such as burgers, ribs, fried shrimp, a seared tuna sandwich and specialty pizzas. And somebody loves Ma's cookin', so you'll also spot pot roast, stroganoff and potpie. A few points of ambitiousness on the menu include halibut, and a Wednesday and Saturday night special of beef rib roast at a good price. The restaurant's riverside location makes for good scenery, and there's an outdoor patio that's lovely during warm weather. (The place also has six boat slips, in case you prefer to arrive via the water.) There's a lineup of live music every week, from swing to Beatles tribute bands, R&B to country. They have a wicked-fun St. Patrick's party, and a great New Year's Eve crowd. And if you want to hear the funniest beer songs ever, call the restaurant and ask to be put on hold. Full bar. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night daily.
