Today, asking for an oil change here will get you a cruet of olive oil. But look around, and details such as the oversized garage doors and rusty metal racks will tell you that Petra Restaurant, a cheery Midtown spot located on a busy corner of Madison Avenue, was once home to a garage. Today the renovated body shop boasts an eclectic menu of Greek and Korean cuisine. When dining at Petra, bypass the tiny dining room to sit outside on the patio when the weather allows, and go tapas-style with skewered kabobs of beef teriyaki, marinated lamb, pork cooked in Korean chili sauce, and tender veggies, all served with basmati rice. Add an order of dolmas (rice- and ground beef-stuffed grape leaves) and a mezze platter of hummus, falafel, baba ganoush and tzatziki (a refreshingly cool cucumber and yogurt sauce), served with fresh-baked pita wedges, and you've got dinner for four. Blow your top with the bi bim bop (a Korean favorite that blends stir-fried beef, white rice and steamed vegetables with a single egg, cooked sunny side up) or kimchi, served with fried rice. Beer available. Serving lunch and dinner Tue–Sat. Closed Sun–Mon.
