Shalimar Fine Indian Cuisine offers exciting and refreshing buffet food in a relaxing setting. Located in a strip mall a few blocks from the Strip, Shalimar's interior features elegant touches of Indian design, including beautiful brass lamps hanging from the ceiling. The lunch buffet isn't glitzy, glamorous or themed (as the typical Vegas buffet usually is.) Instead it offers northern Indian favorites served from simple steam trays. (The tandoori chicken steals the show.) Dinner patrons order from the menu, choosing from a number of dishes also seen on the lunch buffet: bengen bharta (a vegetarian dish with eggplant, tomatoes and onions), hot curry vindaloo, mixed vegetable soup, seafood curries, prawn saag, lamb curry, curry masala dishes and a variety of vegetable dishes. Flavored naans are offered, and the saffron basmati rice is imported from Punjab. Some dishes are very spicy, so it's good to remember that raita, a cucumber-yogurt blend, can quell the heat.
