In a city where barbecue is king, the reigning royal family is the Fiorella clan of Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue. Since the restaurant's humble beginnings in a storefront south of Kansas City in the 1950s, the Fiorella family has built a barbecue dynasty, with a handful of eateries serving an extensive menu of smoked meats, steaks and sandwiches. The crowning jewel is the Freight House location, where patio diners look out at Union Station. The open-pit, wood-burning ovens fire up at 5 am and burn for 12 hours to create that night's smoky, tender ribs, chicken, pork and beef. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Voted Best Barbecue-South in the 2008 The Pitch critics poll.
