Winner of most of the Jacksonville media's best-of awards for years, including the last 10 years in Folio Weekly, Al's Pizza reflects owner Al Mansur's commitment to the New York thin-crust tradition as well as his eye for more aesthetically appealing décor than is typical at the typically spartan pizza parlor. The menu offers far more than pizza, with calzones, subs, wraps, mussels, house-made meatballs, well-constructed salads and various pasta dishes among the highlights. Thin-crust pizza comes in three sizes or by the slice with the usual array of toppings, as well as specialties such as feta, chicken, eggplant, sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Also offered are Sicilian-style thick- crust pizzas, as well as gourmet thin-crust pizzas in variations such as spicy Caribbean chicken, Hawaiian, BLT and white pizza.
