Pre-Starbucks and proud of it, the first Hubbard & Cravens Coffee & Tea store was opened in 1991 by Jerry Cravens and Rick and Marcie Hubbard, Indianapolis residents who love coffee and want their neighbors to have a quality cup each morning. The neighbors are happy; there are now many locations as well as a booming wholesale business and a plant capable of roasting 56 million pounds of coffee a year. When you walk into one of the shops, you're faced with massive displays of coffee beans, heady aromas and a tough choice: Which of the 30 custom coffee roasts or 20 imported teas should you try today? The barista is happy to let you do a taste test to help the decision-making process along. Once you're holding that perfect cup (and possibly a slice of pound cake, a bowl of soup, a salad, sandwich or wrap, depending upon the time of day), settle in to a corner and feel free to linger. WiFi is available at most locations. Voted Best Local Coffeehouse in 2007 Nuvo critics poll. No alcohol available. Generally serving during breakfast and lunch hours daily, dinner hours Mon–Sat. Hours vary by location.
