Humble steam-table operation Yo Mama's Soul Food serves up some of the best Southern-inspired home-style eats of any restaurant in town. Most people will be amply filled after finishing, or nearly finishing, one of the reasonably priced plates served cafeteria-style. The tasty and value-laden food is combined with service that is always very friendly and efficient. The steam table items change daily and include most of the locally popular soul food and Creole offerings. Three of the highlights are meat loaf, smothered steak and the seafood-rich gumbo. Other worthwhile centerpieces include oxtail, chitterlings, pig's feet, turkey necks and smothered pork chops. The related operation, Yo Papa's Barbecue, residing in a trailer in the parking lot (the barbecue is served in the restaurant during the week), does a very commendable job with East Texas-style smoked meats. No alcohol available. Serving lunch and dinner daily, but closes early Sun and Mon.
