Unassumingly situated in a strip mall near the busy Westheimer and Voss intersection, Teppay has long been the choice for discriminating Japanese-food aficionados. In a comfortable, minimalist setting, Teppay serves the full range of expected Japanese fare: sushi, gyoza, tempura, teriyaki, udon and soba noodle dishes, katsu (fried pork cutlets), yosenabe (Japanese-style bouillabaisse), shabu-shabu (slices of raw beef cooked tableside in broth), and the increasingly hard-to-find sukiyaki (small pieces of meat and vegetables also prepared at the table). The sushi and sashimi are excellent, quite possibly the best in Houston. One popular and unusual dish for regulars at the sushi bar is the whole mackerel, fileted and presented on a plate with the skeleton intact along with a light dipping sauce and shredded daikon and carrots. Full bar. Serving dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
