Reggae Hut Cafe is not an actual hut, although reggae music does play on the sound system. What it is: a good Jamaican restaurant with an urbane, friendly and cool vibe amid the storefronts on Almeda, near Hermann Park and the Medical Center. The prime draw is the Caribbean food that is generally very tasty and reasonably priced. It's tough to go wrong on the interesting, but well-focused menu. Reggae Hut is quite proficient with all of the better-known Jamaican specialties such as patties (similar to empanadas, or filled turnovers), jerk chicken and oxtail. The typical Chinese and Indian influences on Jamaican cuisine are evidenced in the fried rice and stir-fry dishes, pepper steak cooked with soy sauce, and a number of curries. Beer and wine available. Serving lunch Mon–Sat, dinner Mon–Fri (11 am-9 pm Mon–Fri, 11 am-3 pm. Sat.) Closed Sun.
