Located at the edge of Rice Village, Istanbul Grill fits well into the mix of quaint, ethnic eateries. It's a friendly, small restaurant serving interesting, tasty food at very reasonable prices. For those not familiar with Turkish food, it's quite similar to what is served at the more common Lebanese-owned Middle Eastern restaurants. Olive oil, cucumbers, eggplants, parsley, lemon juice and sesame are commonly used ingredients. For appetizers, there are stuffed grape leaves, hummus, tabouli and other zesty vegetarian plates. For entrées, Istanbul Grill's brick oven gets heavy use with the various kabobs of marinated beef, lamb and chicken. Another meat dish worth ordering as either a plate or a sandwich is the doner kabob, made with lamb and beef slowly cooked on a skewer. The portions are generous, and plates are usually served with moist rice and grilled tomatoes and bell peppers. Thin, house-made bread arrives warm and fresh at every table. Flaky and sweet desserts, as well as Turkish beer and wine, are available. Serving lunch and dinner Tue–Sun. Closed Mon.
