Avalon Diner has consistently satisfied the need for comfort food in one address or another in the River Oaks area since 1938. For many, the biggest draw is the breakfast fare (served at lunch as well). These are the well-worn favorites that Avalon does well, plus a few Tex-Mex breakfast items. The numerous non-breakfast offerings include a range of hamburgers, hot dogs, hot and cold sandwiches, and dinner plates. The more elaborate and fine value daily specials include fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, tuna croquettes, and the like. As an added retro bonus, Avalon still serves the old-fashioned fountain drinks such as milk shakes, cherry Coke, ice cream sodas and ice cream floats. No alcohol available.
