Well before you enter one of the three good-sized and attractive 59 Diners, each of which scream "diner" — one location has even won an award from The American Institute of Architects — you have a pretty good idea of what you’ll find on the menu. As with most diners, breakfast is the biggest draw. Starting early each morning, 59 Diner offers all of the diner specialties that you would expect in this part of the country, including omelets, pancakes, French toast and a few Tex-Mex dishes. Post-breakfast, there are a number of burgers, hot sandwiches and heartier dishes such as potpie, meat loaf and fried shrimp. Daily blue-plate lunch specials include chicken-fried steak, turkey and dressing, and fried catfish. Fit for the modern era, 59 Diner also offers about 10 entrée salads. On the other hand, the restaurant has rich and delicious milkshakes in case you need some smooth, caloric solace. No alcohol available. Kids menu. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri–Sat. Voted Best Greasy Spoon in the 2008 Houston Press readers poll.
