Home to one of Honolulu's most famous St. Patrick's Day block parties, Murphy's Bar & Grill also serves as a favorite lunch spot for the downtown business crowd and a popular anytime hangout for loyal locals. Boasting one of Hawaii's original liquor licenses, Murphy's avoids the umbrella-garnished cocktails available at local tourist traps. Instead, expect a serious menu of single-malt Scotches and imported brews on tap, including all the Irish favorites: Harp, Murphy's Stout and, of course, Guinness. This neighborhood haunt easily becomes a home away from home with its smile-ready staff and avid support of local sports teams. (They hold an annual fund-raiser for the University of Hawaii's athletic department.) Murphy's serves honest, no-frills salads, sandwiches, burgers, steaks and other British-inspired comfort food such as fish and chips and corned beef hash. Entrée specialties include Gaelic steak and braised lamb shank. Everything, from the jalapeño poppers down to the bread pudding, is freshly prepared and offered at an excellent value, especially considering the generous portions. Serving lunch Mon–Fri, dinner nightly.
