Family-owned and -operated since 1963, Hee Hing Restaurant provides a more spacious, upscale alternative to its Chinatown competitors. The daily Hong Kong-style dim sum, marked by an ever-present crowd and several Honolulu Advertiser 'Ilima Awards, may be what put this Oahu favorite on the local culinary map. But its expansive menu, consistently superb fare and convenient location near Waikiki Beach have made it an absolute staple in Hawaiian ethnic dining. Traditional Cantonese dishes with a slightly Americanized twist prove full of flavor and are packed with meats, veggies and spices. Dinnertime ups the ante with a more extensive list of seafood features, including Maine lobster and honey walnut shrimp. Eaters preferring land larder can choose an excellent version of lemon chicken or a steaming bowl of won ton soup, large enough for a meal on its own. Imported Chinese spirits spice up Hee Hing's respectable wine list and full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily.
