Quite a ways from the white tablecloths of resort-saturated Waikiki, Oahu's North Shore upholds an equally important Hawaiian dining tradition: shrimp-themed plate lunches sold from various vans parked off of area beaches. Possibly the most famous among them, Giovanni's Original White Shrimp Truck appears as little more than a beat-up, graffiti-covered van off Kamehameha Highway. The half-dozen or dozen prawns dripping in sauce – garlic, lemon butter, or hot and spicy – are accompanied by two scoops of rice and a lemon, making it the ideal pre- or post-beach meal. No alcohol available. BYOB. Serving during lunch and early dinner hours daily. Closes 6:30 pm.
