You haven't done Hawaii if you haven't had a malasada (or several) from Leonard's Bakery. Fresh from the Kapahulu Avenue fryer come these light, fluffy and delicious burger-sized Portuguese doughnuts – now permanently ingrained in island culture since being introduced by immigrant laborers in the late 1800s – covered in sugar and often filled with the likes of custard, chocolate, coconut and cinnamon. You'll find many a trademark white foam box open in the parking lot or on the way to nearby Waikiki beach, as Leonard's still-made-by-hand treats have become a morning, afternoon and evening tradition for tourists and locals alike, since 1952. No alcohol available. Serving from 6 am to late evening Mon–Sat. Closed Sun. Voted Best Malasada in the 2008 Star-Bulletin and The Honolulu Advertiser readers polls.
