From a featured article in The New York Times to a spot on Oprah's coveted "O" list, Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream & Desserts' unique mochi ice creams have caused quite a buzz on the national sweets scene over the past 20 years or so. Individual servings of premium ice cream rolled in sweetened rice confection, these mouth-watering treats (mochi) are filled with the super-creamy ice cream recipe painstakingly perfected by New York native Keith Robbins. His almost immediate success as both a local retailer and global wholesale provider, since opening his first store in 1985, has not stopped him from personally overseeing every operation and franchise relationship, even today. Beginning with raw natural ingredients and processing them slowly in small batches, mochi ice cream maintains an intense flavor, delightfully expressing the near two dozen varieties available. Favorites include classics (such as vanilla and mint), island tastes (guava and sakura) and beverages made lick-able (green tea and espresso). Bubbies also features floats and shakes, sorbets, and several flavors of super-rich ice creams boasting slightly off-color, often suggestive names. Even the names for scoop sizes border political incorrectness, beginning with the "fetal" dip. Bubbies treats are available at two Oahu locations as well as through various gourmet retailers throughout the state. No alcohol available. Serving during lunch, dinner and late-night hours daily. Voted Best Ice Cream in the 2008 The Honolulu Advertiser readers poll.
